Advice for Dancing to Salsa.
- Listen to the percussion to find the rhythm of the music.
- The conga player normally plays two strong hits on the 4th beat. Whenever you hear those two beats you know beat one is the following beat
- Look at your partner in the eyes
- Relax and let the rhythm take you. If you're tense you will dance slightly before the beat which will make you partner feel unfortable
- If you're a man you must make your lead very obvious. This is the biggest complaint that women make about their dancing partners. Don't be afraid to dominate the woman (on the dance floor!)
- if you're a woman, move your hips - a lot!
- don't flap your arms or elbows
- Master a small number of turns that you can execute with your eyes closed. This is much more impressive than someone using a million turns that look unfortable
- Don't count - especially not out loud - dancing is not accountancy.
- considering booking a salsa band for a special event?
